I must tell you that these Jalie tops are "so" comfortable!

This is the top that does not have the altered (raised) neckline.

I find it is low, but with a camisole it is just right!

Edited: I wanted to mention that I cut the neckline bands as per pattern pieces, but for this top, applied them using the Sarah Veblen technique.

Another one of her videos available is her turtle neck application. (I'm posting them here for future references.)

Vogue 1086

I have been patiently waiting for my local fabric store to bring the new Vogue patterns out. I was thrilled to see them in the cabinets today so -

I bought Vogue 1086 today.

When I first saw this pattern on the Vogue site, I knew I had to have it. It's a gorgeous dress and I'm very anxious to make it.

Now - I must ponder what fabric to use!

Another Jalie 2794 Sweetheart Top.

I raised the neckline by 1-1/4", and this is a much better fit for me.

This is such a pretty top and fits very nicely.

I'm thrilled with the fit and I'm thinking of making another one already!

I will wear the #1 Sweetheart Top, with a camisole, however this one will be my TNT Pattern.

Deer - in Our Back Yard!

These friendly deer have been visiting our back yard lately.....but only to eat our hedges and the bird food!!

I was quick enough today to get a picture of them before they ran off :)

Sweetheart Top #1 * Jalie 2794

I have been wanting to make this top for as long as the pattern has been out (2007) and now that I have - I love it! It is such a pretty top.

There are so many wonderful reviews written up at Pattern Review on this top and I think I've had the same success as everyone else who has made it. For my first one I wanted to see how the fit would be without alterations to the pattern, so I didn't make any- (other than making full length sleeves). Many reviewed that the neckline was low. I figured that would be an issue for me too. I'm thrilled to say, that this is the "only" change I will make, is in the neckline, as I do find it somewhat low. I am very happy with the overall fit of this top, ( l will post a picture wearing it).

I plan on making another one as soon as I finish this post and I will raise the neckline.

The fabric I used is a knit I bought at Tissus Claudiany in Quebec. (Does it look familiar?)

I'm sure you have all seen the Sewing Article: "Best Patterns for 2008" by Diane Egelston at Pattern Review. It's a very interesting article.

MacPhee # 420

My first project of the year was this fleece jacket for my husband Bill.

I made it the first week of January, but just did not have the time to post till now.

The Pattern is MacPhee # 420 -No Sweat Shirt. I used red/white fleece, which I bought on line from MacPhee Workshop - Edmonton. I made the full zip front with side inseam pockets. Bill didn't want the maple leaf applique sewn on the front or back of his jacket.. It is unlined and to finish the seam allowances, I serged them......very easy and quick.

I've made this jacket many times before. I've made the pullover variation and the full zip front variation and every time it turns out perfect. The jacket is casual and very comfortable.

Overall it's really just a nice, simple pattern, no surprises and easy to follow instructions.

Great Coat Sew Along - Burda 7855 "Complete"

I am so pleased - I finally finished my coat.

The coat went together quite nicely with no complications.

The style changes I made were minor: I made bound buttonholes and made single welt pockets.

I used a decorative stitch on the lining hem and then sewed the lining to the coat by hand. (at the hems only!)

.........back vent detail. I didn't really notice the instructions for sewing the lining to the back vent - until I was actually sewing the lining to it. The pattern instructions for the vent would have you cover the vent opening, as illustrated in the picture. I didn't care for this, so I ended up modifying the flap lining. I clipped into the lining so I could then stitch the lining around the opening. I've done this before and so I'm pretty sure that the look I ended up with for this vent is not how it should end up looking like - however it's the best way I could think of to finish it, so the vent flap could freely open without being attached to the lining. It's also a shorter vent since I shortened the coat by 3 1/2 ".

I'm very very happy with this coat and I love the fit.

I'm so pleased how it turned out and even more pleased with the fantastic information I gained from - Paco's and Tany's tutorial - Thank you so very much to you both for sharing your time and valuable information!

Marji - Taking this project on was a huge undertaking and you did a fantastic job. Thank you.

It was a pleasure having so many people from all over the world come together for such a project. It was fun and I enjoyed seeing everyone's jackets come together.

Jalieasy Way

I have been going thru my Patterns and sorting them out.

Basically re-organizing them in order by Company and pattern number. I came across 3 older Jalie patterns. My sister had discovered Jalie patterns when she started sewing in the 80's. Of course I had to buy some too.

This Polo Shirt # 2941 A, is copyright 1983.

These other two are 1986. I'm thinking I bought these patterns- maybe late 80's because 2941-A is size Newborn to 3X. My daughter was born in 1985.

Button - Update!

I was so hoping that I would receive my buttons today.....but I did not .....

.......truly disappointing! I wanted to finish my coat this week end!

Great Coat Sew Along - Ann's Progress

Hi Marji,

Great idea to roll call :)

I have been working on Burda 7855 and I have made great progress with my coat.

I did blog some on my blog. I guess I've been pretty silent during my progress. I felt that I wasn't really taking great big steps while making the coat, so at the time didn't figure I should post here. I have the coat and lining done, but not sewn together yet!

From the start I had trouble finding just the right buttons, and just last week, did find what I hope to be the perfect ones. I'm still waiting for them to arrive from The Button Drawer. When they do arrive I will just have to make my bound button holes (a bit out of sequence but still ok) /sew the lining in/ buttons/ hems......take pictures....

Even though it's taken what seems way too long to make this coat,I've had allot of fun.

Congratulations to those who have finished their coats. They all look wonderful and are all very impressive!

Linda MacPhee

I'll be making fleece tops soon, so I bought my fleece from Linda MacPhee. She has some of the best quality fleece, with zippers and ribbing to match the fleece. I'll be using her "No Sweat Pattern # 420. I've made this top many times and it is a favorite.

I thought I'd also share one of her "Linda MacPhee's Workshop" Episode videos. There is an interesting segment with Ron Collins on making ties.... A great Christmas gift idea. (Ron Collins and Linda are about 12:23 mins into the video if you just want to watch the tie segment )

For those who live out west - Ron Collins will also be in BC, Canada - April 2009 - with Sandra Betzina!
