Jalie ~ Onesie

Jalie 3244 ~ Footed Pajamas ~ or as we like to call them Onesies!!

These are for my husband.
I made the version with the cuffs at the leg, not the "footed" version.
I had to add some length to the body.
Jalie's instructions are excellent for this adjustment.
They fit him perfectly.

The fabric is a very soft fleece and very warm.
Quite often my husband will come with me when I have to do that "quick" stop
into my local  Fabricville.
On one of these stops, he saw this fabric and thought it would be perfect
for this pattern, which he also picked.
He is  truly "a keeper"!!

Of course I  want a pair too.

Happy Sewing!!

Burda 7947 Skirt & Jalie 2910 Top

Just a quick note to check in. I hope everyone is having a great week so far.
I decided my next project would be a fairly easy and hopefully a quick one, so I picked this Burda skirt and a Jalie top.
I love the lines of this skirt.(View C). I'm making it in a very light weight jean fabric. The Jalie top will be the sleeveless one done up in a knit.
When sewing is done in short sessions, and the project is simple, it's actually exciting that you can see progress :) in one sitting. In one night I easily traced the pattern, cut out my fabric and sewn the skirt fronts. It's great :)
I met a young lady today, who just happens to make beautiful garments and I wanted to share her site with you. . . Erin drafts, designs and sews them up herself and sells these creative garments on Etsy. ... .She is very talented.... Enjoy!

My newest Sewing Room Notion

My husband and daughter saw this shoe tape dispenser at our local Staples store- and they thought it would be just too perfect for my sewing room...... I love it!
I'm very"slowly" making progress on my Vogue 8259 jacket .
Pieces are all interfaced.......pad stitching done ....
and pockets ready to be hand sewn on.
I hope to get more done tomorrow. It will be nice to finish this jacket so I can start on summer clothes....like this one of many I want to make.....
from Patrones #278. There are so many beautiful patterns in this issue.
(Thank you so much Paco).
I'm happy to say that my Jalie patterns have been shipped. They were not supposed to be released till Mar 24th, but I got my shipping notice on the 19th :) For those not familiar with Jalie, when you order (from their site), 3 patterns you receive a fourth free. I ordered three new patterns and my fourth I chose the pants patterm # 2107 for my husband. I also ordered my stretch denim from Fabric.com for the jeans pattern #2908.
....and last but not least, a picture of my "boys" keeping me company in my sewing room! Bradley happy as can be sleeping very comfortably on Duncan.

I must tell you that these Jalie tops are "so" comfortable!
This is the top that does not have the altered (raised) neckline.
I find it is low, but with a camisole it is just right!
Edited: I wanted to mention that I cut the neckline bands as per pattern pieces, but for this top, applied them using the Sarah Veblen technique.
Another one of her videos available is her turtle neck application. (I'm posting them here for future references.)

Sweetheart Top #2 *Jalie 2794

Another Jalie 2794 Sweetheart Top.
I raised the neckline by 1-1/4", and this is a much better fit for me.
This is such a pretty top and fits very nicely.
I'm thrilled with the fit and I'm thinking of making another one already!
I will wear the #1 Sweetheart Top, with a camisole, however this one will be my TNT Pattern.

Sweetheart Top #1 * Jalie 2794

I have been wanting to make this top for as long as the pattern has been out (2007) and now that I have - I love it! It is such a pretty top.
There are so many wonderful reviews written up at Pattern Review on this top and I think I've had the same success as everyone else who has made it. For my first one I wanted to see how the fit would be without alterations to the pattern, so I didn't make any- (other than making full length sleeves). Many reviewed that the neckline was low. I figured that would be an issue for me too. I'm thrilled to say, that this is the "only" change I will make, is in the neckline, as I do find it somewhat low. I am very happy with the overall fit of this top, ( l will post a picture wearing it).
I plan on making another one as soon as I finish this post and I will raise the neckline.
The fabric I used is a knit I bought at Tissus Claudiany in Quebec. (Does it look familiar?)
I'm sure you have all seen the Sewing Article: "Best Patterns for 2008" by Diane Egelston at Pattern Review. It's a very interesting article.
Jalie

Jalieasy Way

I have been going thru my Patterns and sorting them out.

Basically re-organizing them in order by Company and pattern number. I came across 3 older Jalie patterns. My sister had discovered Jalie patterns when she started sewing in the 80's. Of course I had to buy some too.

This Polo Shirt # 2941 A, is copyright 1983.
These other two are 1986. I'm thinking I bought these patterns- maybe late 80's because 2941-A is size Newborn to 3X. My daughter was born in 1985.

If you use Jalie patterns, what is your oldest pattern?

Prints - Prints - and more Prints

These are fabrics I purchased at Tissus Claudiany in Quebec.
I am so pleased with the quality of these fabrics. I'm thinking they will be made up with Jalie patterns. I bought three more of their newest top patterns, 2793, 2804, 2806 and 2216 - an exercise outfit pattern. I'm always looking for different patterns for work out outfits!
Love this pink and black...nice border detail!
This purple and black is also one of my favorites. I love the colour!
I may make a summer dress with this one,the pattern is bold and big!

Tissus Claudiany ( St-Jean-Chrysostome,Quebec)

I was away for a few days visiting my family in Quebec City.
While I was there I made a point of shopping at "Tissus Claudiany" and I also found another fabric store on the same street called "Les Tissus D.R.B.
Deepika reviewed Tissus Claudiany and I have to agree it is a wonderful shop. It is a small shop with lots of great fabrics. Especially knits - lots of prints. I had a great time picking out fun prints. ...and there was allot to choose from......I can't seem to upload pictures tonight so I will add them later.
Have you bought anything from this store? If yes were the prices competitive?
I bought 8 pieces of knit fabric. (I was thrilled to find some fabric like the one on the Jalie Pattern 2794 top,the black/white circles.)The prices were very competitive - The fabric I purchased was from $10.98 to $12.98 a meter.
Were the sales people polite and friendly?
The sales person serving me was very nice. She was by herself while I was there and it was a busy day for her, but I received excellent service.
How would you rate the quality of the item this store sells?
The fabric all appeared to be very good quality. The knit I purchased definetly is a higher end product.
How w
as your shopping experience. Is there anything you did not like about this store? I liked everything about my shopping experience.
Would you shop here again?
Yes I would. I think this little shop will be a regular stop whenever I'm in Quebec City.
Would you recommend this store to others?
Absolutely.
Any other comments you would like to add?
They have Jalie pattern tops made up - that they also sell. This is a great way of seeing these tops done up before you buy the pattern...and the fabric. I didn't see a large selection of Jalie patterns for sale, but then again I didn't ask if they had more. I was too focused on buying knit fabrics :) and knew I was going to order my Jalie patterns online when I returned home.

Jalie 2444 Exercise Outfit- Top & Shorts

I made this top and shorts with "Tactel" Fabric from Timmel Fabrics .

I decided to made the top and bottom a couple of sizes bigger so they would not fit as tight as the pattern picture shows, so they are loose fitting. To take in a little of the fullness around the middle I added a seam from the under arm to the hem line. This also added a nice design effect.

(Picture taken Oct 4 2007, a beautiful fall day for a run outside)

(The bottoms are no longer "tights" like the pattern design, but "shorts".) I also added length to the shorts.

Next one I will do with contrasting colours although I do like all one colour.

I am sew very pleased with the fit and fabric used. Over all I really like the style and will continue to use this pattern, also bought at Timmel Fabrics.

Jalie 2445 - Pants Workout

These pants are made with lycra/cotton fabric, bought at Timmel Fabrics,
The fit is great, comfortable and best of all quick & easy to make.
**Note** When I first looked at the picture on the pattern cover, I thought the pant style would be too "low"on me ....I thought I would have to make some adjustments, but after tissue-fitting the pattern I was pleasantly surprised to see I wouldn't have to make any changes........the front, on me, is not as low as it appears on the models......Another Jalie favorite.

Pattern Description: Womens lounge wear pants.
Pattern Sizing: This pattern has 22 sizes, from childrens size 2 to 14 and womens size 4 (XS) to 22(XXL). I used the hip measurment and it turned out a little close fitting. I do like my exercise pants a little loose, so I did go up 2 sizes, from a "T" to a "V", and then I was extremely pleased with the fit, it was perfect. (The smaller size is still OK to wear, when exercising at home, the fabric still has allot of give.)
Did it look like the photo/drawing on the pattern envelope once you were done sewing with it? It looked exactly like the picture on the pattern.
Were the instructions easy to follow? It is a very simple pattern to make and the words/pictures are very easy to follow and well done. The casing is different, and I was not going to do it as instructed, but changed my mind and did take the time to make it up, and I am happy with the result.
What did you particularly like or dislike about the pattern? The style is what drew me to this pattern. The fit is extremely comfortable and very flattering. One of the best I've made and they even fit better than the expensive ready to wear.
Fabric Used: I used Cotton Lycra Jersey, 90% cotton, 10% lycra, from Timmel Fabrics, http://www.timmelfabrics.com/knits.htm It is the very best Fabric for these pants. It washes and wears extremely well, it keeps it's shape.
Pattern Alterations or any design changes you made: I initially thought that the pants would be too low in the waist, but once I made them they were perfect. I made absolutely no changes to this pattern.
Would you sew it again? Would you recommend it to others? I definetly would made these again, I've already made 2 pairs and have bought more fabric for two more pairs.I plan on making my next ones "capri" length for the warmer weather. I do highly recommend this pattern.
Conclusion For people who are frustrated and cannot seem to find that "perfect" pair of work out pants, this is definetly a must have pattern. The pants are quick and easy to make, and the fit is worth it. I am very pleased with this pattern.

Jalie - 2682 Top

This is a very comfortable Jalie top, fabric from Timmel Fabrics. It was sew easy to make. The pattern sleeve design is for long sleeves or no sleeves, I wanted a 3/4 sleeve, so I made mine 3/4 sleeves, and I am very happy with the look. The bodice / neckline was a very different technique but if you trust and just do as the instructions say, it actually does work out. The colour blocking on the bodice was initially an"oops", but I like it that way, so I did the back to match it too. I will be making this top again.
Pattern Review:
Pattern Description:
V- Neck Top, with / without zipper. Raised neckline, with/without sleeves.
Pattern Sizing: This pattern has 27 sizes. Great for mother - daughter.
Did it look like the photo/drawing on the pattern envelope once you were done sewing with it? The top looks exactly like the picture on the pattern.
*** I should also mention, pattern piece B - Front Bodice, view B, no zipper, has to be cut out x2, Front bodice is doubled. I assumed one piece would end up as the inside and the other the outside of the garment. So I decided I would cut the one piece out of a plain black knit and the other one out of a floral knit, and this would make a nice contrast. To my surprise when I sewed them as instructed and turned them, I had the black knit on the right side (in and out) and the floral on the left (in and out)............ I actually really like the Top like that, so I blocked the back bodice to match the front.
Were the instructions easy to follow? The instructions were very easy. The technique to sew the neckline / front bodice is somewhat different, however it's just a matter reading and doing as instructed and it works out.
What did you particularly like or dislike about the pattern? I love the style. The fit is very flattering. The neckline is low, but I wear a tank underneath.
Fabric Used: Black and white floral knit.
Pattern Alterations or any design changes you made: The only design change I made was: I made 3/4 length sleeves instead of long sleeves, (or no sleeves), and I shortened the top by 2 1/4".
Would you sew it again? Would you recommend it to others? I definetely will sew it again, and I definetely recommend this pattern.
Conclusion Great pattern, wonderful fit, easy and quick to sew.
